06 February, 2020
A self-directed IRA allows for a wide array of traditional, nontraditional and alternative investment options not available in a conventional IRA account. Due to the abundance of investment opportunities in the market today, a self-directed IRA allows you to be in control of where to put your money.
Self-directed IRAs are available as both traditional and Roth IRAs. For those who are self-employed, self-directed SIMPLE IRAs and SEP-IRAs are also available.
Self-directed IRAs allow for direct ownership of many types of alternative investments, versus investing in either a mutual fund of ETF, that may provide indirect exposure to these alternative vehicles.
Benefits to investing through a Self-Directed IRA:
- Diversification
- Defer capital gains taxes
- Control investment choices
- Non-dependent on employment situation
